“What is the best Nintendo 64 soundtrack?” – #SoundtrackShowdown Week Eight
3 min read“What’s the best Nintendo 64 soundtrack?”
Welcome back to Soundtrack Showdown, it’s now week eight! The competition for best PS1 soundtrack was fierce last week but ultimately it came down to Final Fantasy VII as the winner by majority vote. Hey, I voted Chrono Cross and nominated Metal Gear Solid, don’t blame me! Kidding aside, congratulations to the Uematsu epic for taking the win!
You can visit the main event page here for more information but in short, we’re looking for nominations from you today and tomorrow (Monday and Tuesday) for the best Nintendo 64 soundtrack. Yep, the famous/infamous N64. All nominations received will appear in a poll open from Wednesday through Saturday when you’ll be able to vote for the best Nintendo 64 soundtrack. We’ll determine the winner on Sunday!
Reminders
-Nominations can be left in comments on this blog or on Twitter, just tag @thewellredmage and/or use #soundtrackshowdown.
-Please keep it to ONE nomination per person but if your first choice is already taken then feel free to nominate a different soundtrack.
-If you name more than one soundtrack, I’ll have to ruin your day and ask you to choose!
-We’re looking for exclusives, not ports, within reason. Timed exclusives are ok to mention provided they were originally on the N64.
In recent years it seems like general reception of the N64 has soured. Ok look it was sometimes aptly called Nintendo’s first step toward irrelevance. It marked their stubborn insistence upon cartridges when the world was moving toward disc-based systems. It was also the early 3D era, the awkward teenage years of video games. But you know what? We’ve all been there. We’ve all been that teen just struggling to fit in. Don’t be too harsh haha!
Name ONE soundtrack below or on social media! Share tracks, tell us what team you’re on, appreciate the artistry behind the music!

So many great OSTs on N64. Outside the ones mentioned already I’d definitely go with Diddy Kong Racing.
