“What’s the best Atari soundtrack?”

Welcome back to Soundtrack Showdown, week five! Last week’s event was a blast and the Super Nintendo made for some… contentious and passionate voting. Thanks to everybody who showed up for that! The winner was Chrono Trigger, nearly ousted a couple times by Final Fantasy VI! Hey, if you want your pick to win, campaign for it and hit the road! Enjoy the unique combination of Uematsu and Mitsuda together on one soundtrack.

Now onto this week’s event and back to the past!

You can visit the main event page here for more information but in short, we’re looking for nominations from you today and tomorrow (Monday and Tuesday) for the best Atari soundtrack. All nominations received will appear in a poll open from Wednesday through Saturday when you’ll be able to vote for the best Atari soundtrack. We’ll determine the winner on Sunday! For this event, we are allowing nominations from any Atari console!

Reminders

-Nominations can be left in comments on this blog or on Twitter, just tag @thewellredmage and/or use #soundtrackshowdown.

-Please keep it to ONE nomination per person but if your first choice is already taken then feel free to nominate a different soundtrack.

-If you name more than one soundtrack, I’ll have to ruin your day and ask you to choose! 

-We’re looking for exclusives, not ports, within reason. Timed exclusives are ok to mention.

-Considering the age of many Atari systems, we’ve decided to allow nominations for soundtracks from any Atari console, from the 2600 through to the Jaguar!

-Atari Lynx does not count and can’t have its soundtracks nominated, as it’s a handheld.

Atari helped form the foundation of the gaming industry but I’d consider this week’s nominating event a bit of a personal challenge. Calling all retro gamers (why not tag some?)! Let’s hear some shouts for the greatest Atari soundtracks.
