“Red’s Top 7 Favorite Pokémon”

Until one has loved an animal a part of one’s soul remains unawakened.

Gotta guess ’em all! Did you manage to get my #1 favorite Pokémon correct? Let’s find out. Congrats to everyone who took a shot at it!

1200px-470Leafeon

#7. Leafeon

The only non-Generation 1 Pokémon to appear on my Top 7, the Eevee evolutions are undeniably cool. I love how they took the same basic creature, some kind of fufu puppy, and gave you different options based on elemental properties. I love how they expanded Eevee’s evolutions over the generations to come, and I want to continue to see more! However, my favorite has got to be Leafeon, because, as you shall see, I really gravitate toward Grass types. No idea why. Not for competitive reasons. My favorite color is green, so maybe that’s why?

Leafeon, Espeon, Jolteon, Vaporeon, Flareon, etc… they’re all cool. What happens if you use crowdfunding on an Eevee? It turns into Patreon.

94-Gengar

#6. Gengar

Next to Dragon, I always thought that Ghost was the neatest Pokémon type. It helped that there were less than a handful of Ghost Pokémon when I actually played the mainline games. Of these, Gengar was my favorite. I loved that mischievous grin and when I later caught onto the fan theory (not sure if it’s still a fan theory) that Gengar are deceased Clefairy, the coolness factor shot through the roof.

250px-137Porygon

#5. Porygon

One time, I watched Electric Soldier Porygon and I didn’t die, or have a seizure. I call that a win. The anime aside, Porygon is one that I always thought of as unique. Its warbling computer sound effect in the original game was actually appropriate. It was robotic and digital in appearance yet not so over-produced in its design as, in my opinion, later Pokémon looked. This is Pokémon not Digimon! Maybe Digimon would’ve been more popular if they’d accented the second “i”? Who knows.

1200px-006Charizard

#4. Charizard

Easily the most popular of the three original starters, Charizard was a frickin’ fire-breathing dragon. Compared with a dumpy frog with a flower on its back and a huge plodding turtle that un-unironically shot water, Charizard was the beast of choice. Even I was swayed by the igneous allure of Charizard, despite his being a total sphincter in the animated series, but I went with a different starter anyway…

250px-001Bulbasaur

#3. Bulbasaur

My pick from the very beginning was always Bulbasaur. Nobody else in my school picked him so I guess that proves I’ve always been an anti-establishment, contrarian anarchist. Oh and also I love Grass types, which I’ve mentioned. I just thought things like Razor Leaf and Solar Beam were super awesome. Unfortunately, since almost everyone I knew back in the Game Boy days had picked Charizard, I didn’t have many friends to share my Bulbasaur love with. Fortunately, now that I’m a mature adult, I can frequent [] for all the Bulbasaur positivity I need.

250px-150Mewtwo

#2. MewTwo

I’m not a huge fan of legendary Pokémon. They seem overly hyperbolic and exaggerated to me. Like a Pokémon that is capable of transcending the laws of time and space is way out of the league of furry animals people keep as pets. However, I do love me some MewTwo. His coolness factor and rarity guaranteed he was the talk of the first Generation. Unlike certain other Mews of a singular disposition, this monster didn’t hide under vans… Plus he was Psychic type which was OP back in the day.

1200px-054Psyduck

#1. Psyduck

And here we have my all-time favorite Pokémon! Surprise! It’s Psyduck. Evidently that didn’t come as too much of a surprise, considering I posted about my favorite Pokémon some time ago (and those of you who scoured the site did a job well done finding that info). My unrequited love for Psyduck probably originated with the anime, since the original sprite in the Red and Blue versions was ugly as sin, but a duck that got more powerful the bigger its headache got was just such a hilarious idea back then. It still is, so much so that I named my Golduck in Pokémon GO “Psyduck”!

  1. This is just off the top of my head because there are over 800 Pokemon and thinking of my favorite 7 is hard
    Greninja
    Arcanine
    Decidueye
    Muk
    Marowak (Sun/Moon)
    Lucario
    Rayquaza
That’s not a definitive list, but that’s all I could come up with for now.
    Solid list!

  2. Dammit! I think I remember reading your Pokemon post now, haha. I said Charizard because dragons are cool 🙂
Um, how about this year’s Spider-man game? Yeah. I’m gonna go with that and wish I had time to play it, haha.

  3. I would never have guessed Psyduck XD
But I like it. It’s a not-so common choice, just like mine: My favorite Pokemon is Gogoat 🙂
Ok, for tomorrows guess… I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s Marvel vs Capcom, but no idea which installment. Since that’s a fairy vague guess, I take my chances and say the new Spiderman game on PS4. I doubt I’m right, but I gotta nail it down somehow…

  4. Ok, so although Arcanine wasn’t correct, I was pretty sure that Mewtwo, Charizard, and Gengar would be somewhere on your list. The rest I would have had no idea about.
Aside from Leafeon (and it’s still close), I can’t deny that any of these are cool Pokémon in one way or another!
